Christmas Horror Movies

December’s horror movie list is stuffed with some great Holiday horror films that you should check out. So lock your doors, throw a log on the fire, and get ready to watch all the nauties in these amazing finds, and holiday classics.

These movies are not listed in any order.

IMDB- 1-10
Scary Score: 1-5 with 5 being the most nail biting.
Re watchable: 1-5 with 5 meaning it’s being bought and added to my 4K Disc collection.

Gremlins (1984)

Available to stream on Google Play, Vudu, YouTube, Amazon Prime, iTunes and Hulu

I can’t believe I am putting this movie on this list. Yes it is categorized as a Christmas movie; yes it has cute Gizmo and his offspring (?) given as gifts. I just can never really see this as a “horror” movie. It is not scary; at least I have never found it to be that way. It also has never been one of my go to movies. One that I am happy to say I would be fine with never watching this movie again.

Scare Score-0

Krampus (2015)

Available to stream on Amazon Prime, Vudu, YouTube, iTunes and Google Play

YES YES YES. Finally a movie where the family has problems, they don’t get solved just because it is a “Christmas Movie” and some good old fashioned “Better Watch Out” mentality. I also loved the whole feeling of the movie. This movie has great acting, great sets with immaculate detail (in each scene), and even a morale. This movie is on my annual Christmas watch list from now on. I also pull this one out for guests want to watch something Christmas themed around the holiday season. I even have a Krampus bell on my tree. This is a very good movie, even appropriate for older children.

Scare Score-3

Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale (2010)

Available to stream on YouTube, Amazon Prime, iTunes, Google Play, and Hulu

I was really looking forward to this movie when I saw the preview for it online. The movie itself falls short. It has some tension that builds into some substantial mood setting, but it just does nothing with it. The plot seems steady at the start, and then just didn’t make it to where I was expecting it to go. Some good scares, the movie is set in Russia on a Reindeer ranch. Santa and his elves come to play.

Scare Score-1

Silent Night, Deadly Night (1984)

Available to stream on YouTube, Google Play, Vudu, iTunes

Old Slasher and Dasher are coming with deranged Santa. I don’t think I would watch this again because the story has been so overdone.

Scare Score-1

Holidays (2016)

Available to stream on: YouTube, Amazon Prime, Google Play, iTunes, and Netflix

I like the way this movie is done. It has multiple short stories (a story/holiday) with a different plot, set of characters and director in each one. It felt a lot like The ABCs of Death, with the holiday being the backdrop. The movie was not all that scary, but more a humorous gore.

Scary Score- 3 some pretty repulsive stuff.
Re watchable- 2

A Christmas Horror Story (2015)

Available to stream on: Amazon Prime, YouTube, Google Play, Vudu and iTunes

Yes, I know, the cover looks horrible. This movie hits all of the horror points; lost in the woods, trapped in a basement, possession, changelings, pre-marital teenage sex, ghosts, creepy mannequins, mental illness and….ZOMBIE ELVES!! This movie is stocked full of humerus elf gore, creepy intertwining plots, great jump scares and William Shatner playing as the cheer mister for the movie. I am probably not selling it very well, but you need to check this movie out if you haven’t.

IMDB- 5.7
Scary Score-3, made me jump a few times.
